‘Any product that goes into our body via our mouth is controlled controlled by labelling regulations to ensure that ingredients are clearly stated. • Yet products whose ingredients enter our body via the air we breathe or through skin contact during use do not fall under the same regulatory system. This means manufacturers do not need to mention lesser effects or possible long or possible long -term effects. Most countries do not require manufacturers to mention on their labels that the products contain neurotoxic agents, carcinogens or hormone -disrupting chemicals’ (Averyll Fitzgerald).
Recently a study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology described the annual healthcare costs and lost earnings in the United States from low-level but daily exposure to hazardous chemicals commonly found in plastic bottles, metal food cans, detergents, flame retardants, toys, cosmetics and pesticides, exceeds $340 billion! OMG I’m super excited to describe how different this pregnancy is.
Ok, if you don’t already know I was lucky enough to do two rounds of IVF (one full cycle and one frozen) and gave birth on the due date to a beautiful baby boy at 8lbs6oz. Sounds like a dream come true right? Wrong – I mean the end result was but during and after…argh…terrible. Im not complaining or whinging but I am about to describe what it was like and compare it to this pregnancy. Continue reading
and boy! has he made me work hard to achieve that.
He has always loved the staple paleo pikelets: one banana: two eggs. So I’ve been experimenting with adding in more nutrients.
Today and past weeks I have been making these, and they have been a winner every time!
I thought everything was going well and that I was on the right track, and then BAM out of the blue, the proverbial hit the fan.
The body is designed to be able to deal with stress. It has a mechanism. The problem is, we are always under stress now, constantly our bodies are exposed to this low grade stress whether it be emotional, physical or from toxins in the air, water, food, skin care etc etc.
This is life now, it’s how we live, it’s how things are now, right? Regardless of where that discussion can lead, let’s talk about what we can do to build our resilience right now!
On Sunday, Adelaide Paleo held a class about Paleo DIY Skincare and where we learnt how to make our own toothpaste and deodorant which is a great way to start to reduce the toxic load on our systems, but also we learnt about SELF-CARE. Continue reading
So last time I told you about my awesome experiment on myself. If you are still here following on, I want to shake your hand haha, some people have said to me over the years I share too much and have a really open weird family because of the info we share between us. Meh. Whatevs.
Now the most common human parasite here in suburban Australia is the pinworm or more commonly known here are threadworm (Enteroblus vermicularis) (Prociv, P 2001). The one that gives you an itchy bum. This is because at night a gravid female threadworm migrates to the anal area and inserts her tail pin into the mucosa and lays her ova/eggs (Sun Huh 2016). Now transmission is usually from children scratching their bums and not washing their hands and putting their fingers/hands in their and others mouths or touching objects around the house/school/daycare/shopping centre, therefore parents usually get infected (Sun Huh 2016). I listened to a podcast on one of the Wellness Couch’s shows, the Kale Brock Show about the gut microbiome and this thing called the biofilm with Kirsty Wirth (whom I then met the other night at Kale’s Heal Your Gut talk). It immediately sparked an interest in me and I quickly got on to researching all about gut biofilms and what other biofilms there are in our body, and what I can do about it.
I struggled to fall pregnant. So we did IVF eventually, I was too depressed and sad and emotional to do things any other way! We completed one full cycle, which gave us 4 eggs, only 3 were viable and only 2 fertilised. They put one in straight away and it failed to take. I was devastated. It took me 6 months to build up enough courage and strength to possible go through that again and I lost 10 kilos and started researching foods and doing that. This time it was a frozen cycle, meaning they do very little intervention besides some hormones and place the egg back in with ICSI (glue) at the right time, then the 2 week wait (2ww). I tested before that because I’m impatient and it was positive! We were on! It was a stressful pregnancy as I felt like I had a lot riding on it, and it was all on me to make it happen. My sister finally emailed me my fatty pics from when my son was around 3 months old and our first flight to Brisbane to see my family.

Since my first post with the statement that I had lost of 60kgs I have been inundated with questions and calls for help.
I’m here for you. I truly am. But you’ve got this. Deep down I know you know what to do and what needs to be done… I believe in you!
I said this to my Mum yesterday whom has struggled since having my brother (he was the second child, I’m the eldest and he was huge, huge like 12lbs), but she said what do you think about me going back on Jenny Craig. Yep my Mum! Have I taught her nothing haha. She’s tired and really just wanted an easier way. You all need to convince her to move to Adelaide so I can look after her!!!
